Basic Overview
We are developing a system that will fill the gap between customers who desire quality, durable products and their local craftsmen who can provide that quality.
Our products are built on demand once a batch of orders have been recieved. They are built locally to the customer and the fabrication is subcontracted to suppliers in that region. The finished product will be available for pick up at our regional outlets.
By setting up the business in this way we will:
- increase the funds spent on making your product. info
- no sacrificing quality for ease of shipping. info
- fuel your local communities by spending in your community. info
- helping the environment. info
This project will be officially launched in two regions, Vancouver Island and the Eastern Townships of Quebec, in the spring of 2007.
We welcome any and all feedback.

Where your money goes :
The list price of most products has little to do with the cost, quality and fabrication of the product. Some of the larger costs included in a list price would be shipping costs, middle man fees, sales fees and brokerage fees. Some products will pass through 3 or 4 markups before being sold to the end customer. It is not unusual for the fabrication costs to be less than 30% of the price you pay at the store.
With our system we spend the bulk of the list price on the fabrication. We have no stocking fees and the products do not go through middle men before you recieve them. Through our network of suppliers and outlets, shipping is always local to our customer.

Sacrifice for Shipping
Mass production is cost effective when done in foreign countries. The products must then be shipped around the world to you, the buyer. To reduce the costs in shipping, the products are made lighter, smaller and cheaper or with "some assembly required".
With Practifab all our products are fully assembled, built using appropriate materials that are locally found and designed for functionablity not shipability.

Fuel your local community
Each dollar spent in your community will be spent 3 times more before leaving your community. Help your community by supporting your local small businesses.

Environmental
Environmentally there is a cost to almost everything produced, recycled or thrown out. During the manufacturing process there was energy spent to create whatever goods is being made. During the recycling process there is energy spent to reprocess the materials. After throwing the product out a new one will have to be made to replace that product and thus the consumption starts again from the beginning.
Scientists now agree that our society's over consumption and dependence on fossil fuels are the major factors in the global warming epidemic that we are facing now.
By purchasing quality, locally made products you will be helping the environment by buying a product that was not shipped around the world and a product that is built to last a long time and that is easily repaired.
